Last Saturday, we participated in the 2015 Youth Summit at Pittsburg High School, sponsored and hosted by Supervisor, Federal D. Glover. Around 25 students, age 12-21, signed up for our workshop titled, “Making Smart Money Choices”, presented by CEO, David Green. The workshop included tips on how to save money, smart auto buying, how to build and maintain a great credit score, and a sample monthly budget. The presentation was very well received!

After the workshop, over 100 students and adults stopped by our display table in the courtyard to learn about 1st Nor Cal Credit Union. Our featured prize wheel was a hit! Students enjoyed spinning the wheel and answering money related questions to receive a prize – the most popular prize being the 1st Nor Cal Credit Union ear buds. Some students were stumped on the money trivia question, “A basic unit of money.” When CEO, David Green pulled out a dollar bill from his pocket as a visual, the students eventually landed on the correct answer, “Dollar”, which was inevitably followed by the question, “Can I have it?” While David was manning the Prize Wheel, our Pittsburg Branch Manager, Aritha Williams, was available to answer questions about membership at 1st Nor Cal Credit Union.
As a “Thank You” from the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, we received certificates of recognition, which we have proudly displayed in our Board Room. We look forward to future community events, including next year’s Youth Summit!
