Animal Shelter Drive Success

During the months of May and June, we hosted a drive in our lobbies to collect donations for the Contra Costa County Animal Shelter. We collected blankets, beds, towels, food and much more, and ended up being able to do two drop-offs to the shelter!

On behalf of all the doggies and kitties currently in the shelter, we thank you for your support!

Vincente Martinez High School

Last week, Shelley, Kristina, and Candace from our main branch visited Vincente Martinez High School and shared with three math classes the importance of having a sound financial future. They explained the difference between a bank and a credit union, how to spend less and save more, and how a good credit score will save them money throughout their lives. We are happy to be a part of the development of future generations in our community!

Benicia Car Show

Donna Tuck, Member Service Supervisor from our Benicia branch, and Scott Adams, Real Estate Manager & Business Development, attended the 24th Annual Benicia Classic Car Show hosted by the Benicia High School Music Group this past Sunday, April 30th. All proceeds from the event went back to the Benicia High School’s Marching Band. We spent the day sharing information about what our credit union has to offer with those who attended. The perfect weather and loads of beautiful classic cars made for a great day out in the community!

Mini Motorland

We want to take a moment and thank the City of Martinez for hosting Mini Motorland last Saturday, April 4, 2017, at the Martinez Amphitheater. We had as much fun as the kiddos did, handing out piggy banks, chocolate coins, and raffle tickets! Attendee, Charlotte (lower right photo) won the raffle and took home a tricycle! One of our employees, Zoyla, stopped by with her family (top right photo) to say hi and enjoy the event. Along with the goodies we handed out, we provided information to the attendees about our youth accounts. We can’t wait for next year!

Comfy Cozies

Community

Kristina Bryan (VP of Operations) and Candace Pelham (Assistant VP of Operations), from our main branch in Martinez dropped some blankets off at the Martinez Police Department yesterday to help support Jackson Murtha’s 9th birthday wish to bring “Comfy Cozies” to children in local hospitals.

Jackson is an 8-year-old and his wish for his 9th birthday on March 19th is to provide big, soft and warm blankets (he calls them “Comfy Cozies”) to children in hospitals who are fighting debilitating illnesses. Jackson is collecting blankets which will be delivered to local hospitals and specialized hospitals such as Children’s Hospital, St. Jude’s Hospital and Shriner’s Hospital.

If you would also like to help make Jackson’s wish come true, you can drop blankets off in the Martinez Police Department lobby at 525 Henrietta St, Martinez, CA.

National Night Out – City of Pittsburg

On Tuesday, August 4, 2015, we participated in the City of Pittsburg 2015 National Night Out event at the Small World Park. Our Pittsburg Branch Manager, Aritha Williams, set up our booth to promote financial health and gave away pencil pouches, pens, pencils, rulers, hand sanitizer and lip balm in the “back-to-school” spirit. We also handed out canvas bags and laffy taffy candy.

We were in good company with 25 other vendors, including Adopt a Pet, a fire truck, a Swat Team, and more. Over 1,400 people attended this free event and enjoyed the rides, face painting, fingerprinting, food, drinks and other attractions. Our partnership with the City of Pittsburg was well received and appreciated as financial health is an important part of the community.

The photos featured here include community members and service leaders of the City of Pittsburg, as well as our Branch Manager, Aritha Williams, enjoying the event.

2015 Youth Summit

Last Saturday, we participated in the 2015 Youth Summit at Pittsburg High School, sponsored and hosted by Supervisor, Federal D. Glover. Around 25 students, age 12-21, signed up for our workshop titled, “Making Smart Money Choices”, presented by CEO, David Green. The workshop included tips on how to save money, smart auto buying, how to build and maintain a great credit score, and a sample monthly budget. The presentation was very well received!

After the workshop, over 100 students and adults stopped by our display table in the courtyard to learn about 1st Nor Cal Credit Union. Our featured prize wheel was a hit! Students enjoyed spinning the wheel and answering money related questions to receive a prize – the most popular prize being the 1st Nor Cal Credit Union ear buds. Some students were stumped on the money trivia question, “A basic unit of money.” When CEO, David Green pulled out a dollar bill from his pocket as a visual, the students eventually landed on the correct answer, “Dollar”, which was inevitably followed by the question, “Can I have it?” While David was manning the Prize Wheel, our Pittsburg Branch Manager, Aritha Williams, was available to answer questions about membership at 1st Nor Cal Credit Union.

2015 Youth Summit

As a “Thank You” from the Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, we received certificates of recognition, which we have proudly displayed in our Board Room. We look forward to future community events, including next year’s Youth Summit!
